MODE designed and documented the Sue Lewis Chocolatier fitout. The existing Sue Lewis store was located in the iconic Treasury building in Perth’s CBD.
The existing retail space is rich in design with white marble and gold features. With the client wanting to keep in style with the existing store, MODE designed the space with a sense of theatre by using the opposite in colour choices in terms of blacks and charcoals but kept the same styling and used copper accents for detailing. Taking on the richness of chocolate the space is smooth and decadent in design.
The tenancy faces directly at one of the main entries into Yagan Square and would therefore have to tie in well with the overall aesthetic of the space whilst also inviting people to linger at the space upon entering. With maximized storage space required by the tenant it was important the shop was inviting to customers and not fully enclosed leading people to move on quickly.
The raw copper framing at the front of the store is a eye catcher being full height to the underside of the statement black structural elements over. This frames the key stone marble display cabinet below it. This highlighted display showcases Sue Lewis’s truffles with extra wall displays and shelving allowing products to line all sides of the store. Working within a tight budget MODE had to balance the tenants wants and needs to the allowed tenancy fitout budget of our client.
The quick turnaround of the fitout program and budget meant decisions were to be made quickly and all items were to be readily available and easily manufactured and bought onto the working site.
