Rockhampton Sports Precinct, A Legacy Project for Central Queensland

The Rockhampton Sports Precinct is a landmark investment in the future of regional sport, community wellbeing, and public infrastructure. Designed as a major multi-sport and recreational hub, the precinct delivers an unparalleled mix of indoor and outdoor facilities that will serve the Rockhampton region for generations to come.

Located 8km northeast of Rockhampton’s CBD and adjacent to the Central Queensland University campus, the precinct has been carefully master planned to respond to the natural site, accommodate long-term growth, and integrate seamlessly with future residential development.

This is more than a sports facility, it is a civic legacy project. It supports participation at all levels, from grassroots to elite, and creates a welcoming destination that unites health, education, environment and community.

World-Class Sporting and Community Facilities

Designed to support high performance sport and inclusive recreation alike, the precinct includes:

Stage 1:

  • 16 outdoor netball courts with a dedicated netball clubhouse

  • Recreational park and play space, including a district park, outdoor courts, parkour course, and toddler play area

  • 10:1 offset tree planting across the site, contributing to local biodiversity and climate resilience

Future Stages:

  • Indoor sports complex featuring six multi-purpose courts, commercial gym, sports science and allied health facilities, council administration, café, and meeting spaces

  • Three multipurpose field tablets accommodating rugby league, cricket, soccer, AFL, and other field sports

  • Two multipurpose clubhouses to service the fields

  • Refurbished athletics precinct with a new clubhouse and upgraded grandstand

  • Maintenance depot and support infrastructure

  • 10:1 offset tree planting across the site, contributing to local biodiversity and climate resilience

A Living Landscape, Rooted in Place

Our integrated design approach brings together architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, and wayfinding to deliver a unified and dynamic public realm.

Guided by the vision of “reinstating the canopy,” the landscape strategy reintroduces layered green infrastructure that promotes cooling, enhances habitat, and strengthens the site’s ecological health. The landscape is not simply a backdrop, but an active system that fosters recreation, identity, and sustainability.

The master plan ensures walkability, sightlines, accessibility, and cohesion across the entire site, creating a precinct that is as intuitive to navigate as it is inviting to experience.

Designed to Inspire and Endure

The Rockhampton Sports Precinct sets a new benchmark for regional community infrastructure. With Central Queensland University as a stakeholder, the precinct will also support research, learning and youth development through health and sport.

By combining high-quality facilities, inclusive design, and climate-positive strategies, this project creates a place of pride for the region—designed to deliver lasting social, environmental, and civic impact.
