Mater Bundaberg Radiation Therapy | Bundaberg, QLD

The Mater Bundaberg Radiation Therapy project was a collaboration between Mercy Health and Aged Care CQ as the property owner and Hospital operator and Genesiscare as the Radiation Therapy service provider.

The project was delivered in record time, from license approval by the Queensland Government in late 2017, to being fully built, commissioned and operational by June 2018. This was only made possible by utilizing an existing Development Approval held for the site and making minor amendments in close collaboration with the Bundaberg Regional Council to ensure timely approval.

The tight design, documentation and construction program was achieved by integrating traditional building methods for the Radiation Therapy bunkers with modular construction for the balance of the ancillary areas.

This allowed early commencement of the site works in parallel with the off-site building of the transportable modular building components, saving considerable time without compromising build quality or integrity.

Construction of the concrete bunkers was accelerated to ensure completion prior to the arrival of the modular buildings, which were then ‘bolted’ on and around the core structure.

The project was completed on program ensuring that the radiation therapy service could commence in line with the licensing requirements.

The siting of the new building and connectivity to the existing Hospital was incorporated into overall master plan for the site, ensuring that the future expansion plans for the Hospital were not compromised.
