GenesisCare Werribee Cancer Treatment Centre | Werribee, VIC

The construction of this new Oncology Treatment facility represents a milestone for the Wyndham community, providing the municipality’s first dedicated cancer care centre.

As one of Melbourne’s rapidly growing western communities, Werribee has an increasing need for accessible, high-quality healthcare services. Providing life-changing cancer treatment closer to home reduces the burden of travel and supports patients, their families and carers throughout their treatment journey.

The 640m² single-storey facility has been carefully integrated into the south-eastern portion of the existing hospital campus. The facility is designed around a single linear accelerator bunker for EBRT and a dedicated computed tomography (CT) imaging room, supported by a suite of patient treatment, observation and consultation spaces, together with staff amenities and operational support spaces.

Creating a calm and welcoming environment for patients, carers and staff was central to the design approach. Natural light is maximised through a series of clerestory windows, drawing daylight deep into the centre of the building while maintaining the functional requirements of the treatment spaces. Internally, the design reflects GenesisCare’s focus on biophilic environments, incorporating timber grains, warm tones and greenery to create a calm and reassuring atmosphere.

Externally, the design responds to two key objectives: reflecting GenesisCare’s established material and aesthetic language while respecting the architectural character of the broader St Vincent’s Werribee campus. Materiality, form and detailing were carefully considered to ensure the new facility sits cohesively within its existing context.

The success of the project is a result of the continued trust and commitment between GenesisCare, MODE & MostynCopper, supported by an excellent consultant team and the professionalism of the contractor, Intrec.
