The new Sports Centre of Excellence is a world-class building and is the first facility of its kind at Thuringowa State High School.

Thuringowa State School - Sports Centre of Excellence | Thuringowa, QLD

In collaboration with Woollam, MODE delivered the new sports hall at Thuringowa State High School.

It features one multipurpose indoor courts, a performance stage, a gym space, changing facilities and ample storage space, staff areas and a kiosk. Across the courtyard from the sports hall, is a Health services training facility, which will aid in training health professionals prior to them entering higher education.

MODE appreciates the importance of physical activity, health and fitness in promoting excellent learning outcomes. As such, we endeavor to provide inviting, safe facilities that engender a position approach to fitness for all year levels and a diverse array of interests.

MODE is committed to design for diverse communities. Universal design principles were considered to ensure accessible connections to all spaces and external areas. Accessible amenities are included in the build. Entry foyer is orientated to street frontage to enable community access to these facilities to integrate the wider community into the school community.

High level louvred windows and acoustic treated panels are incorporated into the design to maximize natural light penetration and cross ventilation, and acoustic performance. Design also includes large roof overhangs and louvre screenings to provide shading against strong East and West sun.
