CQU Electric Vehicle and Energy Training Centre | Complete
A new electric vehicle maintenance training facility has been completed at CQUniversity Australia’s Mackay Oorelea campus, providing purpose-designed spaces for practical training, teaching, industry engagement, vehicle maintenance and new energy technologies.
MODE’s Sunshine Coast team worked with Woollam Constructions to design and deliver the 2,250sqm facility, which includes classrooms, training spaces, conference rooms, offices, student amenities and a double-height workshop.
Efficiency and functionality guided the design. Spaces were planned in coordination with the exposed structure and building services, establishing a clear spatial logic that supports intuitive navigation and the University’s operational requirements. This efficient approach also enabled an additional classroom to be incorporated within the project.
A restrained material palette reflects the practical nature of the facility, while bright colour accents support wayfinding and give the building a distinct identity.
MODE coordinated closely with Woollam Constructions and the consultant team to resolve the project’s technical requirements. The completed building provides an efficient and adaptable environment for the development of electric vehicle maintenance skills in Central Queensland.
