Sunshine Coast Community & Sporting Centre of Excellence | Lake Kawana, QLD
The Sunshine Coast Community & Sporting Centre of Excellence provides an inclusive destination for high-performance sport, health, wellbeing and community participation at the northern end of Lake Kawana.
Developed by the not-for-profit Sunshine Coast Community & Sporting Club Limited, the centre provides training, rehabilitation, sports medicine and administration facilities, supported by hospitality and cost-effective short-term accommodation. It complements the Sunshine Coast Stadium, surrounding sports fields, Lake Kawana and the Kawana Aquatic Centre, strengthening connections across the wider sporting precinct.
MODE provided architecture, landscape architecture and interior design for the staged development, working with builder Vantage Building Group. A large floorplate accommodates the centre’s varied operational requirements within a three-storey built form. The external walls were carefully considered in relation to surrounding areas, while the 11,000 sqm site retains capacity for a future accommodation structure within the permitted eight-storey height limit.
MODE’s Innovation Capitalisation™ approach informed consideration of the project’s social, economic, environmental and educative opportunities. The completed centre provides an inclusive setting for athletes, sporting organisations and community users, while supporting the region’s capacity to host major events and attract elite teams, sports professionals and related businesses. The coordinated architectural, landscape and interior response establishes a practical foundation for sporting excellence, community wellbeing and future growth.
