Sunshine Coast Community & Sporting Club | Lake Kawana, QLD
The Sunshine Coast Community & Sporting Club Limited is a not-for-profit entity that will deliver this High Performance Sports and Community Hub for all sporting codes on the 11,000 sqm site at the northern end of Lake Kawana.
The Hub will include high performance sports training, rehabilitation, sports medicine and administration facilities along with a traditional hospitality venue and cost effective short-term accommodation.
MODE have been engaged to design and developed a staged development for a Community and Sporting Hub to cater for the needs of the Sunshine Coast region. The Sports Hub will be an important addition to the Sunshine Coast sporting landscape and will complement existing local sporting facilities such as the Sunshine Coast Stadium, nearby sports fields, Lake Kawana and the Kawana Aquatic Centre.
Although this site has a height limit of eight storeys, this development is only three storeys in height. The eight storey limit will be held over for the accommodation structure in the future. Due to the nature and requirements of the functions happening within the built form, it has determined a large floor plate. Special attention has been channeled to the treatment of the external walls and the function they play to the surrounding areas. The overarching philosophy for the project is based around the four pillar approachreferencing the environment, economic, social and educational opportunities.
