Shellharbour Airport Terminal | Albion Park Rail, NSW
MODE was approached by Shellharbour Council to re-design the development approval for their new passenger terminal at Shellharbour Airport.
Through efficient space planning, MODE were able to achieve a reduction in overall building size, while still maintaining the capacity to accommodate a projected increase in passenger demand.
The building was also designed to allow easier future expansion should passenger numbers exceed the forecasted projections, safeguarding the life expectancy of this important asset.
One notable design feature was the floor to ceiling hardwood feature wall located at both ends of the Departure Lounge. A natural product and from a sustainable source, it provides contrast to the remaining internal finishes palette.
This timber feature is also used in the Departure Lounge planters and forms part of the internal coastal/hinterland theme carried throughout the 1150m2 footprint.
The project was completed in 2020 and has received very positive feedback on the outcome from Council and the community.
