To support ongoing growth in student enrolments, the Queensland Department of Education (DoE) commissioned MODE to design and deliver a new three-storey learning facility.

The project includes six general learning areas (GLAs), an extension to the existing Prep building to create an additional Prep GLA, and new covered walkways and supporting infrastructure.

The site presented several challenges, including limited green and play space, a high water table with subgrade springs, environmental considerations, and Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) requirements due to adjacent bushland. MODE’s design response carefully navigated these constraints, respecting existing school facilities while creating flexible, healthy and functional learning environments with abundant natural light and ventilation.

Durable, cost-effective and environmentally considerate materials were selected to ensure longevity and efficiency. Perforated aluminium screens and louvres filter natural light across internal and external spaces, softening the building’s façade and enhancing comfort throughout the three-storey GLA building.
