Pelican Waters Retail & Marina | Caloundra, QLD

Pelican Waters commissioned MODE to design their new Dry Boat Store and associated Café, Admin and Marina Retail tenancies on the site adjacent to the site we designed their mixed use Marina Retail project on.

Our Client Pelican Waters and their equity partner where very pleased with the fresh approach to site planning we adopted enabling a reduction in apparent building mass of the Boat Store and an increase in the ease & speed of construction.

Building Forms aim to pick up on the vernacular of the simple skillion roofed beach shack that where once so common and that are also echoed in the forms of our recently designed Pelican Waters Retail project proposed for the neighboring site to the South along with the Pelican Waters Community Centre proposed a few blocks further south helping to reinforce a sense of local community.

Architectural forms combine gently pitched roofs, generous overhangs and layered facades to create a building of welcoming scale to the public areas. At the rear, sculptural openings introduce natural light into the boat store, reducing operational energy use and softening its perceived mass within the surrounding context.

Materials of timber, colorbond steel, painted FC, and expressed steel structure, and powder coated aluminum glazing aim to bring a further sense of the ‘Timber & Tin’ and ‘classic fibro beach shack’ vernaculars to the Marina Café Admin & Retail areas such that they create a familiar and enduring presence within the marina café, administration and retail areas.
