Kwinana Civic Administration Refurbishment
MODE is delivering architecture and interior design for the refurbishment of the Kwinana Civic Administration Building, repositioning the existing facility to support contemporary workplace practices and a clearer civic interface.
Located within the Kwinana Town Centre, the project forms part of a broader program of investment aimed at strengthening civic infrastructure and supporting a growing local population. The approach balances renewal with retention, working within the constraints of the existing structure to improve performance, accessibility and spatial clarity.
The design reconfigures internal planning to create a more flexible and efficient workplace environment. Circulation is rationalised to improve wayfinding for both staff and visitors, with front-of-house functions redefined to establish a more legible and welcoming public interface.
Architecture and interiors are developed as a single, integrated response. Targeted interventions, including new glazing, partitions and joinery, are combined with upgrades to building services to improve environmental performance and overall functionality.
Material selection is guided by durability and clarity, with a restrained palette creating continuity between new and retained elements. Access to daylight and internal amenity is prioritised, supporting a workplace that is more adaptable, navigable and connected.
Public areas are designed to provide clear and efficient access to services, while back-of-house spaces support a more flexible and functional working environment for council staff.
Through a considered approach to planning, materiality and integration, the project strengthens the building’s role within the civic precinct, supporting both operational efficiency and community engagement.
