Project Completion: Bayview Street Social Housing, Runaway Bay
MODE is proud to announce the completion of the Bayview Street Social Housing project in Runaway Bay, Queensland—a purpose-designed development that provides secure, community-oriented accommodation for elderly women in need of social housing.
Commissioned by the Department of Housing & Public Works and built by Nileport Projects, this development reflects MODE’s commitment to creating places that support dignity, independence, and social connection.
Designing for Wellbeing and Belonging
At the heart of this project is a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by older women experiencing housing stress. The design responds by providing a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment that enables residents to maintain independence while remaining connected to the community.
Each dwelling is designed with its own entry porch, which intentionally softens the threshold between public and private space. These transitional zones help encourage informal interaction between neighbours while still providing personal privacy. The housing cluster is framed by calm, landscaped gardens, offering areas for quiet reflection and shared activity.
The result is not just a group of residences—but a micro-community where residents can feel secure, supported, and part of something bigger.
A MODE Approach: Connected by Design
The Bayview Street project is a clear example of MODE’s CONNECTED By Design philosophy, where people, place, and purpose come together to create meaningful outcomes. Every design move was guided by a human-centred lens—from spatial layout and circulation to materiality and communal spaces—ensuring functionality was delivered hand-in-hand with care and empathy.
As MODE continues to support government and non-profit clients across housing, health, and community sectors, this project adds to our growing portfolio of work that creates real-world social impact.
