Guildford Aquatic Centre Reaches Major Milestone with Steel Structure Complete

MODE is delivering the full redevelopment design and documentation of the Guildford Aquatic Centre for Cumberland City Council, in collaboration with Savills.

Replacing an ageing 50-year-old facility, the project establishes a contemporary aquatic centre designed to support long-term community use. Located within a residential setting, the design balances a clear civic presence with a low-scale built form that sits comfortably within its surroundings.

The centre brings together a range of indoor and outdoor aquatic environments, including learn-to-swim and lap pools, an outdoor pool and a children’s splash play area, supported by amenities, changerooms and flexible community spaces.

Sustainability is a key driver, with approximately 1,000m² of rooftop solar panels contributing to daytime energy demand and reducing operational costs.

The project reflects a considered approach to planning, form and environmental performance, delivering a resilient and adaptable community facility.
