Raglan Street West Car Park Amenities | Mosman, NSW
MODE was engaged by Mosman Council to design, document and deliver a contemporary, ‘urbanistic’ public amenity building to replace the existing amenities structure.
The development site is located at the main entrance of Raglan Street West open car park, close to the local town centre and is highly visible from both the street and car park. The design was carried out to take advantage of its unique location with multiple access points.
Care was taken at the outset to design a simple and elegant structure that would complement rather than clash with the existing landscape.
The building footprint was proposed with light coloured brick to reflect the existing surrounding context. The brick walls are framed with expressed structural elements, green wall and sustainable timber screening, creating sheltered enclosures around the amenities for weather protected walkways, hand washing facilities and drinking facilities.
The facility consists of three unisex toilet compartments, one unisex ambulant toilet, one accessible toilet with baby change, water station and a custom designed wash trough with associated circulation areas.
The facility is also designed to allow for an abundance of natural light and ventilation into each of these interior spaces, reducing the need for artificial lighting and allowing a play of light reflecting off the various structural elements.
