Marshall Road Sports Precinct Master Plan | Rocklea, QLD
The MODE Landscape Architecture and Urban Design team were commissioned by the Department of Education Queensland and Sport Eng to assist with the master planning of a new sports precinct to provide infrastructure for a large variety of sports.
This staged master plan required a pragmatic and innovative approach to site planning and our team were instrumental in re-working an existing master plan to provide a more efficient and cost effective response.
Our team balanced the need to meet the immediate needs of the Department with long term development. We investigated a variety of usage models that would allow the department to enter into conversations and negotiations with council and local sporting groups to potentially improve on the utilisation of the expensive and high quality sports precinct. Our team proposed the incorporation of additional facilities such as a café, function spaces, a dog park and playground to not only ensure that community ownership and investment was encouraged, but could also provide the Department of Education with a opportunities for additional revenue.
This complex site features a number of challenges requiring careful considerations including portions of contaminated land, high and frequent flooding, as well as stringent civil and traffic engineering requirements.
