Chancellor State College | Sippy Downs, QLD
The new learning centre at Chancellor State College is a world-class educational facility featuring an enclosed central atrium, general and flexible learning areas, science laboratories, staff rooms and collaborative spaces.
The Eastern elevation boasts an impressive 3 storey wall of glazing, generously shaded by a dramatic fly over pitched roof. Large cylindrical columns topped with splayed feature roof struts ground the entry fly over roof and are repeated through the length of the atrium spine.
The mass of two angled learning wings contrasts the vast open area of triangular atrium. High level clerestory glazing above each wing admits generous light to the atrium void.
The circulation spine of stairs and walkways through the central void provides vertical transparency from the second floor walkways to the ground floor collaborative learning area.
The lower scale linear north and south elevations of the learning wings use a layered façade of masonry topped with brightly coloured express jointed fc and colorbond cladding. The western elevation presents an interesting narrow sculptural stair as the focal point to Sippy Downs Drive.
