Warnbro Community High School - STEM Upgrade, WA
As part of the Western Australian Government’s 2021 Election Commitments, the Warnbro Community High School STEM Upgrade delivers a future-focused learning environment designed to strengthen the state’s education and defence workforce pipeline.
With strategic ties to the upcoming submarine hub at Henderson Naval Base—established under the AUKUS agreement—the project is a key component in preparing students for emerging opportunities within WA’s defence industry and broader STEM-based economy.
Commissioned by the Department of Finance and Department of Education, MODE led the full architectural scope from early concept design through to contract administration and completion. Delivered under a traditional AS1428 procurement method, the project involved the transformation of the shared Community Library—jointly used by Warnbro Community High School and the City of Rockingham—into a dynamic, modern STEM facility.
The refurbished space provides flexible, technology-enabled learning environments that support the integration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in the school’s curriculum. Thoughtfully designed to align with inclusive access standards and future pedagogical needs, the facility now empowers students with practical, hands-on experiences that will prepare them for real-world STEM careers.
By embedding STEM capability into the heart of the school, this project not only enhances the daily learning experience for students but also supports long-term regional development goals—positioning Rockingham as a critical player in Australia’s defence innovation landscape.
